Blackjack is one of the most popular games in both the online gambling world and in land-based casinos. While many players are drawn to the mystique of the game, popularized by fictional characters like James Bond, the vast majority of players enjoy the game because of its simplicity. While it is commonly believed that the minimalism of the game does not lend itself well to gaming strategies, the opposite is actually true. In fact, there are many strategies that players can use to improve their chances of winning at this popular card game.
The most common strategies rely on the player’s knowledge of when to hit and when to stand. Many players are unsure of when to make these crucial decisions, so here are the basics. If the player has a 16, they should stand only if the dealer is showing a 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. If the dealer is showing anywhere from 7 to an Ace, then the player should take a hit. If the dealer is showing a 10, then you should sit until you’re at 17. However, if it is a soft 17 (soft, meaning a hand with an Ace), you should choose to hit again.
The next best option is to invest in insurance. Normally offered when the dealer is showing an Ace or a 10, insurance allows the player to protect themselves if the dealer gets a Blackjack. Players can “purchase” insurance for half of their initial bet, which gives them a payout of 2 to 1 if the dealer does, indeed, show a Blackjack. Although this strategy is risky, it is well worth its cost.
